Our Ancestral Roots with the Kikotan Nation

The Kikotan Nation: Ancestral Roots in Virginia

The Kikotan Nation, one of the Indigenous peoples of coastal Virginia, lived for centuries along the Hampton Roads area where the Chesapeake Bay meets the James River.

Known for their deep connection to the land and waterways, the Kikotans practiced agriculture, fishing, and trade long before English settlers arrived in the early 1600s.

Their story is woven into the earliest history of Virginia, and through them, the roots of the Tann Family begin.
